The Mobilize Recovery Campus Surge made its way to the University of Nevada, Reno this October, transforming Gateway Plaza into a vibrant hub of connection, inspiration, and community action. The festival-style event brought together students, alumni, and local advocates for an afternoon celebrating recovery, resilience, and the power of peer support.
The day kicked off with a lively resource fair featuring local organizations, music, and therapy dogs that set a welcoming and energetic tone. Attendees explored interactive exhibits and educational workshops focused on addiction, mental health, and advocacy — all aimed at equipping students with the tools to create change on their campus and beyond.
The main program featured powerful “Inspire Talks” from four UNR students and alumni who shared their personal recovery journeys, followed by a special presentation of a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Senator Jacky Rosen’s office honoring Mobilize Recovery’s work.
Musician and American Idol winner Noah Thompson then took the stage for a moving live performance that united the crowd through music and shared purpose. Advocate Tom Farley delivered a heartfelt keynote address about his own experiences with recovery, reminding attendees that healing and community go hand in hand. The event closed with a call to action from Dr. Charlene Letchford of BHG, who emphasized the importance of supporting collegiate recovery programs nationwide.
From the resource fair to the final applause, the Campus Surge at UNR captured the essence of Mobilize Recovery — blending education, entertainment, and empowerment to build a movement that’s as fun and inspiring as it is impactful.
