Emergency Departments are often the first point of contact for someone experiencing an opioid-related crisis. What happens in that moment can make the difference between another disconnected visit and the beginning of a recovery pathway.

Today, during National Recovery Month, Mobilize Recovery is proud to introduce Code Recover, a new educational resource designed to help Emergency Departments integrate Recovery Peer Support Specialists into opioid use disorder care.

Code Recover gives Emergency Department (ED) clinicians and peer specialists practical, evidence-based guidance for working together so patients can access medication for opioid use disorder and receive a warm connection to ongoing recovery support.

This new resource hub includes:

• Resources for ED healthcare professionals, including a COWS calculator, patient discharge instructions, clinical quick reference guides, and more
• Resources for peer support specialists, including guidance on patient engagement, warm handoffs, safety, and self-care
• The Code Recover Protocol for responding to opioid-related ED visits
• Printable quick-reference guides for clinicians and peers
• Practical guidance on MOUD, withdrawal management, overdose care, de-escalation, peer program implementation, and more
• A video library featuring clinicians and peer leaders with hands-on experience in ED-based recovery programs
• Over 100 vetted external resources, including additional tools, guidelines, and training opportunities
• Code Recover Connect, a searchable directory for clinicians, peers, and recovery professionals advancing this work

Code Recover reflects Mobilize Recovery’s mission to expand access to recovery support and strengthen the systems people rely on. By helping Emergency Departments combine evidence-based clinical care with the trust and lived experience of peer support, we can create more pathways into treatment, recovery, and long-term community support.

We’re proud to introduce Code Recover during National Recovery Month, alongside many more new resources, events, announcements, and opportunities to take action from Mobilize Recovery throughout September any beyond. It’s all part of our work to ensure that recovery is recognized, supported, and accessible in every community.
