Bridging the Gap: Celebrating Recovery, Harm Reduction, and Families

The Mobilize Recovery Across America Bus Tour is coming to Mesa! Come join us on Sunday, September 22nd from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at the ASU MIX Center in Downtown Mesa for an event that will bring different communities and perspectives together for a night of FREE food, education, celebration, and connection!

Program Schedule

4:00pm: Resource Fair + Networking
We will have the ultimate melting pot of recovery, harm reduction, and family support resources! We encourage you to mingle and get to know other like minded people in the community. We will have a DJ as well to get the energy going! Food will be served at this time.

5:00pm: Mobilize Recovery Bus Arrival
Take a moment to sign the bus with your own message of inspiration or hope, recovery date, or honor a loved one in remembrance.

5:30pm - 8:00pm: Speaker Program

  • Welcome from Mobilize Recovery + Local Community Leaders
  • Shatterproof Town Hall Discussion: Kristen Pendergrass from Shatterproof will lead the discussion with Arizona Department of Corrections Director Ryan Thornell, Mesa City Councilwoman Jenn Duff, and Pinal County Attorney Kent Volkmer for a critical conversation on addressing the opioid crisis through innovative programs like the Arizona Department of Corrections' Community Corrections Program. This panel will explore how state and local governments are working together to support individuals transitioning from incarceration into recovery, offering access to treatment, housing, and job opportunities.
  • Intersection of Recovery, Harm Reduction, and Family Support Discussion: Jaclyn Brown from Mobilize Recovery will be moderating a discussion with advocates on the current state of these communities, with the ultimate goal of determining some ways of bridging the gap between everyone and creating a bigger community of mutual support and respect. Panelists include:
    - Kylee Newgass, Southwest Recovery Alliance + VEN Centers

    - Nathan Truitt-Morales, Oxford House

    - Karla Castro-Soto, Partnership to End Addiction
    - Johnny Martinez, Giving Back AZ
  • Inspire Talks - we will have a few members of the local community tell their stories to illustrate the spectrum of recovery. Storytellers include:
    - Barbara Brown
    Tripti Choudhury
    - Kristen DeRamus
    - Ronny Truitt-Morales

Other Event Highlights:

  • Free food will be served during the Resource Fair + Networking portion of the night
  • Memorial rock painting in honor of those we have lost
  • Free Naloxone will be available (along with training if you are not familiar on how to use it)
